Civility 101 is an introductory training designed to explore the mission of the Institute for Civility in Government and the foundational principles of civility in everyday life, leadership, and public discourse.
Participants will learn the Institute’s definition of civility — claiming and caring for one’s identity, needs, and beliefs without degrading someone else’s in the process — while gaining practical tools for respectful communication, active listening, and navigating disagreement with empathy and understanding.
Through engaging discussion and real-world examples, this session encourages participants to reflect on how civility can strengthen relationships, workplaces, schools, and communities. Civility 101 serves as the perfect starting point for anyone looking to foster healthier conversations and more productive engagement in today’s increasingly divided world.
