About the Institute

The Institute for Civility in Government is a non-profit organization that works to reduce polarization in society. Through its programs and training resources, the Institute facilitates dialogue within the governing process with its Congressional Forums, teaches respect by leading groups of all ages on trips to Washington, D.C. where they engage the political process via participation, and builds civility through our membership, speaking engagements, and civility workshops.

Why Become A Member?

Becoming a member means making a difference! The Institute is an absolutely unique citizens’ movement for civility, serving as a catalyst for change. While many organizations promote civic participation, and some groups work to build community, the Institute for Civility in Government is unique in the way we bring these concerns together.

Our membership serves as both a model and reminder that civility is critical to living in community, and actually builds a presence for civility within the community dynamic. Members have the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference by adding their voice to the call for civility. All members receive the Institute’s quarterly newsletter, complete with book reviews, and are eligible to receive our email quote of the month if they so desire. Members of the Institute are also invited to all of our Congressional Student Forums and other events.

Members of the Institute are people committed to working for greater civility within the governing process and society at large – spreading an epidemic of civility. They are students, clergy, homemakers, retired folk and business leaders. Their careers are as diverse as real estate, computer programming, accounting, teaching, engineering, insurance, retail, social work, and air traffic control. Many of our members volunteer their help at our Congressional Student Forums and other events. Our membership currently draws from across the nation.
