About the Institute

The Institute for Civility in Government is a non-profit organization that works to reduce polarization in society. Through educational programs and membership, the Institute aims to build civility in a society that increasingly tilts towards uncivil speech and actions.

What Else Can I Do?

Remember that you are needed. There is at least one important work to be done that will not be done unless you do it.Charles Allen

Want to get involved, but aren't sure exactly what you should do? Here are some ideas:

  • Join the Institute!
  • Spread the word!  Tell a friend about the Institute.  Encourage them to join, too!
  • Give gift memberships to your friends!
  • Blog about the Institute.
  • Even something as simple as putting a link to our website on yours helps spread the call for civility.
  • Engage with others in a civil way.
  • Start a small group study or discussion group about civility in our homes, communities and nation.  The Institute provides a quarterly book review for our members that offers resources to use.
  • Organize an Institute Civility Training workshop in your area.
  • Arrange a speaking engagement for the co-founders of the Institute.  We speak to conferences, schools, community organizations, faith groups, and simply groups of friends gathered in a home.
  • Let your elected officials know how much you appreciate civility.

The Institute is a grassroots organization that depends on its members to help us grow. Members of the Institute are encouraged to recruit new members, arrange speaking engagements, and work with exhibits. Many of our members also volunteer at Congressional Student Forums, helping with voter registration, event registration, surveys, publicity, etc.

If you would like to volunteer, or need more information, contact us via email at info@instituteforcivility.org, and we will find a place for you!
